Robert Edward Crane was born on July 13, 1928 in Waterbury, Conneticut. At a young age, he was already playing the
drums and towards the earlier part of his career, he became a notable radio announcer and a very talented musician. His
career making role was landed in 1965 when he was cast as an American POW in World War II, Col. Robert E Hogan. The show
lasted until 1971 and was a success. With Werner Klemperer and John Banner, as Col. Klink and Sgt. Schultz, the cast
played perfectly off each other and provided countless hours of laughs for generations to come.
After Hogan's Heroes wrapped production, he had a short lived show called The Bob Crane Show in 1975, but lasted
only one year. He also played roles in the movies Superdad and Gus. Bob was also nominated for two emmy awards which marked
the top of his career.
The Death of Bob Crane...
Bob Crane was brutally murdered in his hotel room in Arizona in June, 1978. He was beaten so badly that he was almost
unrecognizeable. The killer used a camera tripod to deliver several blows to Crane's head and then wrapped a cord
around his neck. The purpitrator was never convicted, but John Carpenter was put on trial for the murder. He was found
not guilty and has since died. Sadly today, the Bob Crane murder case remains unsolved. Bob left behind 3 children
from his first marriage to Ann Terzian, Robert, Debbie, and Karen and Robert Scott "Scotty" from his marriage to actress
Sigris Valdis who also played on Hogan's Heroes.
